FUEFOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION

Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE is a highly popular and evolving hair transplant technique in which hairs are extracted one follicle at a time. FUE’s less invasive nature and potentially faster healing time has increased in popularity over the last several years.

The lasting power of Follicular Unit Extraction seems to stem from both patient demand and the dedication of talented hair restoration experts who continue perfecting the procedure and innovating more precise FUE tools.

THE FUE PROCEDURE:

First your physician will review your crown density and hairline specifics and remind you of the procedural steps. Next, your hair in the donor area is shaved and anaesthesia is administered to completely number the scalp.

 FUE STEPS

  1. Using a tiny instrument, the physician will remove individual follicular units (1-4 hairs at a time) from your scalp by making a slight circular incision around the follicular unit to isolate the graft. The graft is then extracted directly from the scalp using a tweezers-like tool.
  2. Working with a high-powered stereo microscope, specially trained technicians isolate, prepare and ensure that the follicular grafts remain in optimal condition.
  3. Next, your doctor will make incisions to the depth of each follicle that follows the exact direction and angle of your hair growth. The creation of recipient sites is the most artistic part of the procedure. Follicular units are then carefully placed into the recipient sites. The one- and two-hair follicular units are primarily used in the frontal area of the hairline, while the three- and four-hair follicular units are generally placed behind them and on top of the head for more density.
  4. The small hole left behind after extraction will heal over the next few days, becoming undetectable to the naked eye even when hair is extremely short.

FUE is the latest advancement in surgical hair transplantation. Hair follicles are removed from the donor area individually as opposed to FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), which removes hair in strips.

Advantages of “FUE”

The main advantage of the FUE method is that a patient is not exposed to risks such as large scars and/or pain, which is frequently associated with other treatments like FUT/strip technique. FUE Hair Restoration is ideal for the treatment of both incipient and advanced hair loss.

FUE is less invasive and, therefore, leaves no visible marks. However, the procedure can also cost more and take a bit longer.

Follicular Unit Extraction is internationally recognized by the competent authority and organizations as a successor to the traditional strip/FUT hair transplant technique.
